Evacuee Assistance & Information

What assistance is being offered?

The Northwest Territory Métis Nation has received approval from the three Métis local governments (Fort Resolution Métis Government, Fort Smith Métis Council, Hay River Métis Government Council) to make a $300 payment to each evacuee that meets the following criteria:

  1. Must have been residing in one of the following evacuated communities: Enterprise, Fort Smith, Hay River, and Yellowknife.
  2. Must be an indigenous member of the NWTMN.
  3. If you are not currently a member of the NWTMN, your application status must be pre-approved to be eligible for this payment.
  4. A digital void cheque must be submitted to metiswildfire@nwtmetis.ca
    1. If you received a direct deposit from us in the last two years, your banking info will be on file.
    2. Payments will be made by direct deposit only, cheques will not be mailed.
    3. How to get a DIGITAL VOID CHEQUE

For all members under the age of 19, the assistance payment will be distributed to their primary caregiver.

Notice: Please respect our staff, they have also been evacuated from their homes and are working remotely with very limited resources. We expect that these payments will take a minimum of five business days to be dispersed. If you have any questions, please contact metiswildfire@nwtmetis.ca.

How to obtain a Digital Void Cheque

Click the tab below that corresponds to the banking institution that you use. In order to be eligible for evacuee funding, a void cheque must be provided.

Where do I send my information?

A void cheque must be emailed to metiswildfire@nwtmetis.ca. Please include your full name and a copy of your void cheque. Alternatively, you can submit your information and void cheque using the contact form on this page.

  • If you direct deposit from us in the last two years, your banking info will still be on file.
  • We only accept VOID CHEQUES for updating banking information, no alternatives will be accepted.
