Apprentice to Red Seal Interprovincial Mechanic – Tanner Mandeville

The Northwest Territory Métis Nation would like to congratulate beneficiary Tanner Mandeville on the acquisition of his Journeyman and Red Seal Interprovincial Ticket as a mechanic. We’ve had the honor of speaking with Tanner regarding his success, his experiences, and what he plans to do next in the upcoming years.

What tickets/certification have you received, and from where?
“I received a journeyman and a red seal interprovincial ticket. I completed my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year of technical training at Northwestern Polytechnic in Fairview and completed my 4th and last year at Red Deer Polytechnic. My 1st year was 2018, 2nd year 2019, 3rd year spring term 2022 and 4th year fall/winter term 2022.”

When did you begin your apprenticeship?
“I started my apprenticeship in September of 2016 in my grade 12 year in the snap program and completed in December of 2022.”

Tell us about your journey from an apprentice to where you are now
“My journey started when I was hired as a shop hand in 2015 as a 16-year-old. I worked at an independent shop until 2019 after I completed my first 2 years of technical training and made the switch to the Ford dealership here in Hay River and have been there since. I completed my apprenticeship with Ford. My journey has had its ups and downs but going for technical training at college is memories I’ll cherish for years to come.”

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
“In 5 years, I see myself still being in the trade, possibly taking up heavy duty as a second ticket but still stay a mechanic.”

Is there anything else you would like to say?
“I’d like to thank all the people who believed in me and helped me throughout my apprenticeship.”
