REMINDER: Federal Indian Day School Claim

At 11:59 PM PST, July 13th 2022, the Federal Indian Day Schools Class Action Lawsuit McLean v Canada (Court File No. T-2169-16), will be halting the submissions of new claims. More information can be found here: https://indiandayschools.com/en/. It is anticipated that some people will miss the claims deadline. The Settlement Agreement therefore provides a possible extension period of six (6) months – extending the deadline to January 13, 2023 with the submission of a Extension Request Form, and approval from an Exception Board. This possible deadline is three (3) years from the start of the claims process and four (4) years from the publication of the court approved Settlement Agreement. Although, Class Members are urged to file claims before the July 13, 2022 deadline to ensure their claim is accepted.

Those who have attended one of the identified Federal Indian Day Schools or Federal Day Schools during specific eligible class periods listed on the List of Federal Day Schools (Schedule K) and experienced harm are eligible for compensation of $10,000 – $200,000.

Claimants can be connected to legal, cultural and wellness supports. More information is available at www.indiandayschools.com/en/yellowknife or by calling 1-877-515-7525. Community members can register online or call to book an appointment.
