Senior Fuel Subsidy Program
The Senior Fuel Subsidy is a program that helps to offset the high cost of heating fuel for indigenous Metis seniors who do not receive Government subsidies for a home they own or rent and live in. A one-time subsidy of up to $1,000.00 will be given to eligible seniors towards heating.
Home Purchase Program
What is the Home Purchase Program?
The Home Purchase Program provides an opportunity for NWT Metis Nation citizens to become homeowners by providing assistance to purchase a home (including modular or prefabricated). The client is responsible to obtain their portion of project financing through an approved financial institution as either a mortgage or construction loan.
Who is eligible for the Home Purchase Program?
Applicants must meet the following criteria.
- Be a registered and approved citizen of the NWT Métis Nation.
- Must be 19-years or older.
- Must be a resident of the Northwest Territories for a period of 12 months prior to applying.
- Must NOT own or co-own a home at the time of application.
- No minimum or maximum household income
- Preference will be given to middle income households (income $255,000 or less). Outside of this range, you may still be assisted depending on funding availability
What Financial Aid is available?
Clients will receive down payment assistance in the form of a forgivable loan (forgiven over 5-years). The total loan per approved applicant is $75,000.
What properties are eligible?
Eligible properties must be on titled land or long-term residential lease (30 years).

Home Repair Program
What is the Home Repair Program?
The NWT Métis Nation assists existing homeowners in making necessary repairs to their home, in order to ensure a safe and healthy home.
Who is eligible for the Home Repair Program?
Applicants must meet the following criteria.
- Be a registered and approved citizen of the NWT Métis Nation.
- Must be 19-years or older.
- Must be a resident of the Northwest Territories for a period of 12 months prior to applying.
- Must own or co-own the home requiring repairs and use as their primary residence at the time of application.
- No minimum or maximum household income
- Preference will be given to middle income households (income $255,000 or less). Outside of this range, you may still be assisted depending on funding availability

Clients will receive repair assistance in the form of a forgivable loan (loans of $10,000 or more forgiven over 5-years). The total loan per approved applicant is up to $45,000.
What properties are eligible?
Homes owned or co-owned by the applicant at the time of application and used as the primary residence of the applicant.
