Annual Intergovernmental Meeting with the GNWT

On April 12, 2022, the NWT Metis Nation Leadership & Métis Community Government Leadership held our annual Intergovernmental Meeting with the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). Representing the GNWT was Premier Cochrane and the entire GNWT Cabinet.

In attendance at the invitation of the NWT Métis Nation was MLA Frieda Martselos (Thebacha) and MLA Richard Edjericon (Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh). We also acknowledge the MLA Rocky Simpson (Hay River South) originally planned to attend but was forced to send his regrets due to unforeseen circumstances. We welcome the participation of the MLAs who represent our Ancestral Communities.

This annual face-to-face event allowed the NWT Métis Nation and the GNWT to share concerns and explore opportunities of common interest on a government-to-government basis.

Both parties also renewed their intergovernmental memorandum of understanding for another four-year term.
